The CGC certification shows that your dog can demonstrate reasonable basic skills in public. For the responsible dog owner, a CGC is an important line on your dog's resume. Some hotels and restaurants will allow CGC-certified dogs into their establishments. CGC certification is also a prerequisite for therapy dog certification. The test is open to mixed breed and purebred dogs of all ages. Puppies must be of an age where they have received all of their appropriate immunizations, such as rabies vaccines. The test covers ten items: 1) Accepting a friendly stranger 2) Sitting politely for petting 3) Appearance and grooming 4) Walking on a loose lead 5) Walking through a crowd 6) Sit and down command – staying in place 7) Coming when called 8) Reaction to another dog 9) Reaction to distraction 10) Supervised separation Upon successful completion of the 10 items on the test, your dog is awarded a CGC certificate from the AKC. This certificate has the potential to literally open doors for your dog. CGC Skills are taught in Family Dog 2 class. Therapy Dogs Inc. provides certification and liability insurance, networking opportunities and credibility for members when scheduling visits with facilities. TDI has behavior and temperament standards that must be met for dogs to be certified. For more information and membership information, please go directly to Therapy Dogs Inc's website www.therapydogs.com.

Dogs love to run! This is a sport for dogs who love to run and to chase. Very little training is required for most dogs. More Info
Dogs love to run! This is a sport for dogs who love to run and to chase. Very little training is required for most dogs. About 85% of dogs of all breeds will chase the lure. We know a dog will run when we see their reaction to the moving lure, especially if they follow it with their eyes. A few dogs take more than once to figure the game out, most catch on right away. Lure coursing involves chasing a lure around a field at high speed. A typical lure course is up to 1,000 yards long. This course is unfenced. Dogs should be in good physical condition. Pre-register and our monthly schedule will be sent to you on an ongoing basis. Pre-pay OR pay at the door for the same price. Sundays, monthly, spring through late fall. As a courtesy to others waiting in line, we suggest that your dog have a reasonably good recall. If you are concerned about this, we can run your dog toward the end of the day. The $20 entry fee gives you 5 tickets or you can buy 1 ticket for $5 at the event. Please register in advance with your email address so we can keep you updated. Each lap around the field is worth one ticket*. If you do not use all of your tickets you can use them at our next lure coursing event. Lure coursing is run in the cooler morning cooler hours for the dogs. Sorry, no children under 10 years old.
*One ticket at our field, two tickets at charity events like the Spring Dog Festival.
Check out our lure coursing photos on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Capitola-CA/Living-with-Dogs/142201734894

In order to be fair to all students, classes need to be compromised of dogs/handlers that are at a similar place in their training. Many of the skills progress through build significantly on skills you learned in an earlier classes. If the class is compromised of dog/handler teams who are really different in skill level and understanding, it will result in time being spend with those whose dogs are not up to speed. In order to facilitate efficient and effective classes, students need minimum skill sets to proceed to the next level. If you are not able to gain the required skill set before the end of the class, you have several options available to you. You can repeat the class. You can schedule private lessons. You can work on the skill set on your own and then come back for an assessment by the instructor. The instructors will provide you with as much help as they can to help you achieve your objective and move on to the next level.
